Ecotourism at Aokiaghara Forest

Near Mt Fuji Japan is Aokigahara Forest. Clustered throughout are beautiful hemlock fir and Japanese cypress trees with moss covered rocks and mushrooms at their base creating a fairyland scene. Underneath the soil are lava tubes formed over time from the volcanoes in the area hiding ice caves ready to explore.

Local tour operators are passionate about the protection of this precious environment and have an in-depth knowledge of the science and history of the area. They also appreciate the adventure opportunities of the ice caves and happily take visitors down into their depths to appreciate the amazing icicle formations.

Aokiaghara forest tours are an excellent example of ecotourism. Their nature-based activities develop an appreciation of the natural and cultural values of the forest leading to a sustainable future for the environment and local community.
